In the last week, the canadian band Arcade Fire gave a lecture at the University of Texas about their efforts toward helping the people of Haiti. If you recall, besides Haiti being a very poor country, an earthquake hit the country back in 2010, which according to wikipedia left up to 316,000 people dead and 1.6 million homeless.
Arcade Fire discussed the current socio-economic crisis and appealed the students to join them in their cause (Partners In Health).
After the lecture, the band performed two acoustic versions of Wake Up and Haiti. Watch the songs below!
Wow, it's so easy to forget how a disaster can cause trouble for years, when media attention has been diverted from it!
ReplyDeleteI know Arcade Fire! Great Canadian band! :)
ReplyDeleteBlah, Arcade Fire.
ReplyDeleteAt least they're genuine in their concern, and don't latch onto some new crisis the moment it occurs and the media leaves their chosen one.
That takes dedication, and it's something to be respected for.
